Ways to Make Your Rental Feel More Homely

There are so many things that run through your head when you're moving house, but I think one of the most prolific ones is "How can I make this my own?". Sometimes renting can make you feel as if you can't really put your own stamp on it, but with me moving into a new build next month, I've been collating some inspiration from the wonderful Pinterest and here is what I found.

Focal Points
A focal point in the room is a space to attract the eye, but also a spot where you are able to group ornaments. The current house we live in has a particularly large hearth and fireplace which is amazing for displaying my monochrome themed pieces, but moving to a new build means we will lose that.If you have a modern place, a book shelf, cupboard or even coffee table can serve the same purpose and sectioning ornaments to this area also means minimal clutter.

Natural Beauty
In my opinion no home is complete without a plant or two. Succulents are climbing plants sit happily on shelves and patterned pots give a quirky edge. For those looking for a touch of foliage with minimal effort, cacti are ideal, needed limited water.

Quirky Upcycling
Adding your own stamp to your stark Ikea furniture (or an item you found on Freegle) can make a huge difference to it aesthetically. Old toys can be painted and made into handles, or even plant pots! Hate your old chest of draws? Give it a partial lick of paint and remove the bottom draw for extra bed-side space.

A Touch of Copper
Copper is SO in at the moment and after previously being skeptical, I am now fully in favour of a splash here and there. Grey and black make the perfect partners for the metallic shade, adding a twinkle with candle holders, plant pots, fruit bowls and cushions.

Picture Wall
It's no secret that a framed picture gives a wall character, but instead of a classic mural or an oversized canvas, opt for a focus wall filled with your favourite illustrations, prints and quotes. Can't hang anything from the walls? Use an easel in the corner of the room or stick your pictures up using removable velcro strips, the renter's dream!
